Showtunes Saturdays: An Introduction
I feel like I’ve been trying to start this for nearly a year, but as I haven’t had a consistent posting schedule for a while, I didn’t want to start something I couldn’t fit into the schedule.
But here we are! I’m so excited about it, so I decided to just try it out and see what happens!
So what are Showtunes Saturdays? A blog series where I talk about my favorite musicals as a fun break from the normal reviews I post!
I was originally hoping to discuss a Broadway musical every Saturday, complete with analyses and wordy rants about why I love musicals. But I ended up realizing that one post per musical probably won’t cut it.
So instead, I’ll stick to two reviews a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and do Showtunes Saturday or another review on Saturdays depending on what I’m in the mood for. Or maybe I’ll do a fun series about other fandom-y things! My hope is to make Saturday posts fun as I have a long list of things I want to try.
But back to Showtunes Saturdays! If the musical has source material, I’ll try to cover it in a review earlier in the week. Emphasis on “try.” 😉 Obviously, works like Les Miserables might take me a little longer to get to, but some other, lesser-known books inspired musicals that I’d love to talk about (ie Tuck Everlasting, Jane Eyre, and Percy Jackson).
The first Saturday I talk about the musical, I’ll do an introduction post with a brief content review so you know what to expect if you decide to listen to it for yourself.
After that, I’ll probably talk a bit about the summary of the musical and what I like/don’t like.
If that doesn’t take too long, then I’ll dive into a lyrics analysis or talk about the themes and moments I love.
I don’t have a super specific plan, but I was originally hoping to talk about one musical per month. Knowing myself, though, it might take significantly longer. So we’ll just see where this goes! This post has been chaotic, to say the least, but hopefully, I’ve communicated all of this somewhat clearly.
I haven’t decided what musical to start with, but some contenders so far are:
The Lightning Thief
And so many others!
For now, I just wanted to let y’all know the tentative schedule for the foreseeable future so I’ll have some accountability!
That’s all for now!
